Pink Tim's German Tekken Circle at the Zoo
2001-11-11 - 2:08 p.m.

"One more time, we're going to celebrate, oh yeah, don't stop the dancing... one more time" -Daft Punk

I feel good, but really really tired. Yesterday was the "all day date" with Matt. Right.

Well, we hung out all day, that's fine. I see this purely as a friendship thing. He's super serious, my humor goes over his head (or isn't appreciated), and he has a strong, strong like for anything German, so much so it works it's way into about every third sentence. Well, that, and Pink Floyd. I listened to some of the album in his car, it was loud, and actually kind of cool in a way I can't explain, so I do believe I'm going to have to check it out in some regard.

We started by going to Tim's Burgers, on foot... ate there for about 6 bucks with the service being flawed but friendly... then we headed down to and walked down River Street. Very pretty and touristy as normal... didn't really stop anywhere- as I decided we needed a destination, so I had him head out with me to Airship Records, Walk... walk... walk... got there- I went and purchased Dave Matthews Band's new live double CD, despite the overpricing- rationalizing it was cheaper than taking the bus to the mall.

Next, we went to the mall. (Subtle irony, eh?) We perused, I played Tekken 4 and beat up a little girl with King, and beat Matt before jobbing (losing) to the computer. I saw Matt play Revolution X. I am very, very scared of how good he was. Apparently there is a gun's man in the boy. This makes sense with the occasional mean streak he displays. Hmm.

Kept walking around the mall, I even held my breath and went into Abercrombie and Fitch, and felt semi-good that I still didn't really like anything in there. It was getting kind of late, as we were supposed to meet Sam, Matt's deaf ex-boyfriend at Starbucks downtown. We cut out.

We hung out at Starbucks, where I got quiet and a little bit uncomfortable. I really like Sam, I know he's smart and cool, but his disability makes me feel guilty when I can't understand him, or guilty that I don't know sign language to understand him, and guilty that I have to patronize him sometimes by nodding or agreeing with something I didn't understand, even the second time. The iced chai from Starbucks is really good though, despite the 3 dollar charge. Yeah.

From there, we went to Planet Three and Loose Lucy's, where Matt dug around for a Pink Floyd sticker that wasn't being sold. I tried to be interested in the hippy clothes, and the punkier stuff offered at Planet Three, but I was like "Wow, I've outgrown this." I'm growing up- aren't you proud of me?

From there, I thought it'd be a good idea to head to Crites Hall, where my college was putting on "Caucasian Chalk Circle," an odd titled play which Jesse and Ashleigh, my friends, were in . Yeah, I kinda went to see the play, but I also went because Jesse's mom and sister were in town to see it- and I hadda say hi to them, cuz they rock.

Turns out not only Jesse's mom and sis were there- but Ashleigh's parents were there too- I get along great with both of them, so I got to chill with them for a little while, introduce them to each other, and socialize and be amusing and cool and all the things I am... that a certain *someone* I was with didn't really seem to appreciate. Nawh. I'm not bitter. :-)

Jesse and Ashleigh sung in this play- Ashleigh had the lead role... Jesse had like, 5 roles... and my Lord, they were both GOOD! The play was a play within a play kinda thing, kinda like "Noises Off," but very very different from that... there were occasion songs, there was a decent amount of very odd comedy, some raunchiness- some sincerity, some cute actors (like the boy who looks a lot like Sean Hayes... yeah!)... great show, well worth my free complimentary ticket. Hell, I would have paid double what I did to have seen that show.

Finally, closing off the night, Matt and I went back to my place, changed and got the glowsticks Matt bought from Spencer's earlier, and headed out to the Zoo, a straight ("normal"?) club downtown. There was a long line to get in outside, but most of the people waiting were headed to the main floor- which was grinding raunchy hetero music, matched by the dirty kinda look and low lights and crowded dance floor. Upstairs, where we (and the cool people) went was techno/rave kinda stuff. There was lotsa glowsticks in people's hands and lots of raver style dress- I saw the return of the bo-bo (pacifier), visors like no tomorrow, and even goggles with little headlamps in the eyepiece. There was an odd older Mexican dude who looked like a mega version of Eddie Guerrero, twirling glowsticks on cords and making quite a glowstick black light show. There was a dude with no shirt on and a visor who Matt was drooling over despite his heterosexuality, who kept doin this "I'm playing with a marionette" dance that had like 4 steps that he did over and over to every song. A very interesting lot of people... they seemed kinda cool though... and it makes me wonder what a real rave is like- though I suppose there'll be time for that if I get the internship in Atlanta I'm looking forward to.

We were outright offered to buy Ecstacy on the dance floor. I don't know how common that is, but Matt and I didn't have the money. 12 dollar cover charge! Gah! It wouldn't have worked that great at the hour offered anyway... and who knows how safe that would've been... but it did further reinforce the want I have to try that at least once. Fear for me if you must.

So I danced... a lot... with glowsticks... a lot. I'm at the lab, it's the next day, it's 2:36, and I'm listening to Daft Punk here rather than working on my project. The raver scene is kinda cool... I'd like to dabble in it... although putting it that way, I feel like I'm talking about a career choice. I'm tired as fuck, having only gotten about four or five hours of sleep the night before the "Matt-day," and having spent Matt-day running around non-stop. But, I guess, it was healthy cuz of all the exercise... and um... I learned that I can handle myself and keep myself relatively entertained even if the person I'm with doesn't appreciate my kind of persona. Seein as, perhaps, I was kinda hoping to hook up with the bloke, and I've all but killed that in me now, perhaps I should be upset, and perhaps I am a little bit let down, but it ain't no big thang- cuz I know I'm better than that. If anything, it makes me wanna go out and do this kinda thing again with different dudes... hanging out, being myself, and just kinda enjoying myself regardless of whether or not there is magic. I did kinda feel like yesterday was an episode of "Blind Date." I hope the pop-ups were amusing and skewed in my favor.

I'm going to go dance into the distance now- Daft Punk is putting me in a happy place.

*dances*
